General Characteristics (V5)

Speed:

Optimized for high-speed printing, with some layers curing in seconds on the Form 4.

Durability:

Enhanced toughness and impact resistance compared to V4.

Surface Finish:

High-detail, matte finish (except for Clear) that mimics injection-molded plastics.

 

Uses For Each Formlabs Resin

Clear V5 

Fluidics, optics, and LEDs. Offers the highest transparency and "optical clarity." It can be polished to a near-transparent finish.

Grey V5

 General prototyping and CAD scaling. The "workhorse" resin. Its neutral tone captures shadows and highlights perfectly, making it the best for inspecting fine surface details

Black V5 

Mechanical housings and enclosures. A deep, rich matte black. It is highly opaque, making it excellent for light-blocking applications or sleek, finished prototypes

White V5 

Medical models and consumer goods. Provides a bright, clean neutral white. It is ideal for parts requiring high-contrast fine details or painting.

 

Technical Differences

While they share a similar base chemistry, the pigments slightly alter the UV light penetration during printing:

Clear

allows for the fastest curing but is more prone to "light bleed" on extremely fine internal channels.

Black and Grey

offer the best dimensional accuracy for tight-tolerance assemblies because the pigments help control the XY curing spread.
